Plan Turquino: raises quality of life in San Cristobal

Artemisa, Cuba – The People’s Council Niceto Pérez in the municipality of San Cristobal was the place chosen in the province of Artemisa to celebrate the creation of the Plan Turquino-Manatí, special program aimed to raise the quality of life of the inhabitants of the mountains in Cuba.

Its residents are grateful to have health, education, sports and culture services without forgetting its fertile lands where is cultivated more than the 80% of the coffee produced in Artemisa and the 35% of the agricultural products consumed by residents of the municipality of San Cristobal.

They also have telephone services, a road that communicates them with the province of Pinar del Rio and territories of Bahía Honda and Mariel, today its housing stock has changed for the good of their locals, of about 2 000 houses affected in the wake of the hurricanes in 2008, now are already recovered more than the 91% of them with the decisive participation of the people.

The special program which comes to its 28 years of creation dignified the lives of its inhabitants.
