Elían and his Close friend Fidel Castro (plus photos)

I knew him some years ago when he became sadly famous and its history moved the world. It was only necessary to show his skinny figure in his childhood, among pictures which were treasured by his father and his grandparents, there in a humble house from Cardenas city in Matanzas province to discover that this would be one of the most noble causes that it could be involved in.

There were many working hours which were widely rewarded when the father and his son lived together again.

At present, Elian González Brotón is a young engineer who does not lose his curiosity about watching the surrounding environment; however, today is impossible to hide his emotions.

I find a young man who is immersed in sorrow and well wrap up in the semi-darkness of a studio of the Yumuri TV where he experiences many memories.

It makes me to doubt for some minutes the request said by someone really beloved that said to us: ‘”We must leave them alone so that Elián could rebuild his life by finishing its school.’?

How could it be changed the possibility about talking to his most beloved friend?

Elían, I only disturb you due to I promised to fulfill a request asked to us by the journalists when you graduated in sixth grade, but being your best friend’? That was one of the most impacting occasions of my life: The fact that a public and massive event Fidel announced that he was my friend, so imagine me being included among Fidel´s circle of friends when I had that early age. It was something extraordinary, a big one to me.

I later understood that if I was the publicly announced friend, all the young people, all the children and all the poor of the world, would be my friends and Fidel was there for them.

The last occasion when we could see one another was another really important one. It was when I was finishing the High school and I did not know what to study. He allowed me to make him some questions and I understood through his smile that he had been preparing me to choose what I liked, since we first met.

When Fidel had news that I liked the Painting subject, he was then interested about me having a related teacher, if I liked the sport, the he used to encourage me about it. The highest teaching was that one: the fact about finding it by my own and being ready for everything. He reminded me that it did not matter what I decided to study given he would feel proud about it; however, the point was that I had to do my best in body and soul.

What kind of feeling the name Fidel awake in you?

The name of Fidel is the name of a friend, the name of a teacher, but Fidel has been this way to Cubans by being concerned with the weakest, the dispossessed and he has always been that way.

I see him like the friend that was present when my family needed, the one who was present when I needed and he is a teacher. His legacy is as a teacher due to all what he has taught us. That concept about Revolution is also the one that we all have to instill into us at present and we have to act, consequently.

Fidel´s legacy is inside each young student trained by the Cuban Revolution and in each human being helped by the Cuban internationalist doctors; it is inside each life saved from the Ebola disease and through the thousands of people who have seen the light again as part of the local medical program entitled´Operación Milagro.´ That is precisely the legacy left by Fidel Castro.

Fidel´s legacy is inside each sport instructor, each computer specialist and each program created by the Cuban Revolution. That is the legacy left by Fidel about showing the path to us so that we could create our own path.

I think that you have ever asked yourself this: What would have been about Elían without Fidel?

Elían, without Fidel, would have been a puppet for the U.S. mass media and would have continued in the United States and the battle would have not been won and even my family would have been heartbroken, if the key figure of Fidel Castro had not been behind all those events.

How much does Elían have about Fidel inside ?

I have all of him and I am feeling like his son; besides, Fidel has also been my brother, my friend and has talked all to him. He has given all the teaching aids to me and I have tried to learn from him and even from each gesture and word, one learns from Fidel.

That is what I would do and that is to say to follow his ideas and his teachings. I will be always proud about him due to we cannot talk about Fidel in past tense. Fidel is and will be Fidel. He is omnipresent and he is even much more omnipresent, at present time.
