Margaret Atwood Launches Compilation of Canadian Texts in Cuba

Havana- Relevant Canadian writer, Margaret Atwood, is launching today an anthology of 23 stories from her country at the 25th International Book Fair held in Cuba.

Canada is the guest country of the fair that takes place in this capital from yesterday to February 19th, with the participation of representatives from more than 35 countries.

Atwood will promote today ‘From the winter’, in whose pages appear stories by Mavis Gallant, Alice Munro, Rudy Weibe, Carol Shields, Graeme Gibson and herself, among other authors.

The prolific poet, novelist, professor and political activist has received several international awards, among them the 2008 Prince of Asturias Award for Letters, and has been nominated for a Nobel Prize in Literature.

According to the program of the fair, Cuban writer, Nancy Morejon, will present today a poetry anthology by Atwood in the pavilion dedicated to the guest country at the San Carlos de la Cabaña fortress, main venue of the literary event in Havana.

After concluding this edition in Havana, the fair will continue in the country until on April 16 to end in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba.

According to FIL president, Juan Rodriguez Cabrera, it is estimated that about four million copies of books will be marketed in the island on occasion of the annual event.
