US Democrats Urge Congress to Look into Michael Flynn’s Resignation

Washington -Two US Congressional Democrats called for a closed-door hearing at the Capitol on the resignation of White House National Security Adviser, retired general Michael Flynn, The Hill newspaper reports today.

Flynn asked last night for his departure from the government team of President Donald Trump after a scandal over his contacts with Russian officials on key issues of bilateral relations.

Lawmakers John Conyers and Elijah Cummings said they were ‘shocked and discouraged’ when they knew that three weeks ago, US officials warned White House legal advisers that Flynn gave false information to the public about his communications with the Russian government, but the executive ‘apparently did nothing about it.’

The reality is that Flynn is not prepared to serve as a National Security Adviser and should have been fired three weeks ago, Conyers and Elijah stress in their joint statement, the top blue party figures in the Judicial Committee and House Committee on Oversight Government Reform, respectively.

The two congressmen said that their Republican colleagues put aside in this matter their constitutional duty to supervise the executive power.

They asked to hold a closed-door session, as soon as possible, with representatives of major federal agencies, including the Department of Justice and the FBI.
