ALADI Proposal for Integration Accord Is Supported
Montevideo – The Committee of Representatives for the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) expressed its support to the proposal by the secretary-general of the organization, Carlos Alvarez, of working for a Latin American Comprehensive Economic-Trade Agreement.
For that purpose, they agreed to boost this initiative together, through the existing integration mechanisms in the region, such as ALADI and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), according to a press release circulated in Montevideo today.
Agencies as the Central American Integration Secretary’s Office, composed of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, and the Integration Institute for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Inter-American Development Bank are also participating.
They are planning to hold the first expert meeting in April, to begin working for that objective, the source said.
The test also said different figures and experts on integration from the region supported the initiative, including the executive secretaries of ECLAC, Enrique Iglesias and Alicia Barcena, and former president of the General Council of the World Trade Organization, Mexican citizen Fernando Mateo.
