Venezuela Demands the EU to Respect its Sovereignty
Caracas – Venezuelan authorities have reiterated today the demand for respect for national sovereignty in view of the continued sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) and the United States.
Europe’s political community approved on Monday new coercive sanctions against 11 officials and other state powers of this South American nation, including the Executive Vice-President of the Republic, Delcy Rodriguez, the Vice-President for the Economic Area, Tareck El Aissami and the Minister of Education, Elias Jaua.
For his part, Jaua, on Twitter, explained that these actions against him are for being part of the Commission in charge of calling the elections to elect the members of the National Constituent Assembly, a body established in article 347 of the Venezuelan Constitution.
The also socialist leader said he felt absolved of the alleged conviction since August 30, 2017, when millions of Venezuelans voted against the actions of political violence that spread throughout the country between April and July of that year, and which resulted in the deaths of 121 people and 1,959 others were injured.
On her part, Rodriguez also rejected the coercive measures approved by the EU in retaliation for the elections held on May 20.
She emphasized the institution’s opposition to the re-election of President Nicolas Maduro, who won 68 percent of the vote, and described the process as lacking in guarantees, despite the fact that hundreds of international observers validated the legitimacy of the elections.
The vice president said that no threat, extortion, arbitrary measure or blackmail will divert her commitment to the defense of the South American nation’s sovereignty. Rodriguez also took the opportunity to authorize the High Representative (for EU Foreign Affairs), Federica Mogherini, to make use of supposed properties in Rodriguez’s name, ‘which do not exist, and to use them to deal with the migration crisis that they have generated with their warmongering, racist and xenophobic policies’, the leader added.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, the Venezuelan government condemned the flagrant subordination of the European Union to the administration of US President Donald Trump, emulating the actions of aggression against Venezuela, designed by the most extremist and warlike sectors of the population.
Among the officials who are the object of these maneuvers are the rectors of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Sandra Oblitas and Socorro Hernandez, as well as the members of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB), Jesus Rafael Suarez Chourio, Commander General of the Army, and Sergio Marcano, inspector general of the military institution.
The rejection of the Venezuelan government and people warns these measures threaten political peace, tranquility and dialogue among Venezuelans.
