Frente Amplio of Costa Rica Stresses Importance of Sao Paulo Forum
San José – The Secretary General of Frente Amplio (FA) of Costa Rica, Antonio Ortega, stressed here the importance of the Sao Paulo Forum for the progressive parties of Latin America and the Caribbean in the exchange of experiences.
‘It is of great relevance the development of the 24th Forum of Sao Paulo for the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean. On this occasion in a special circumstance, where imperialist attacks are more crude’, said Ortega in exclusive statements for Prensa Latina.
The young leader highlighted that despite some recent electoral defeats of the left in the region, there begin to be victories of those progressive movements such as the one led by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in México.
About the next meeting in Havana, on July 15-17, Ortega will be attending as representative of his party, said this will be a necessary exercise to meet, recognize ourselves and know in more detail about the different processes in Latin America and the Caribbean in the construction of more progressive societies with the leftwing forces of the 21st Century.
He recalled that the Forum of Sao Paulo was born in 1990, in circumstances still more adverse than those at present, hand in hand by historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro and Brazilian Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, today victim of those attacks and manipulations of the international right against the left.
As for the participation of the FA in the Forum, Ortega said that after he entered in 2009, under the leadership of the founder of thwe largest leftwing party of Costa Rica, Jose Merino, almost 10 years have passed, time in which they havwe shared his experiences with comrades fromn all the region.
We have always participated with great capacity to contribute and construction of our common agendas, looking for points that unite us, said the leader of FA.
Fort he FA, the edition 24 of the Forum in Cuba has a particular meaning because when the Forum was founded, the Caribbean island was the only nation with a government of the left, characterized for its bravery and leadership in combats against inperialism, with a criminal blockade that lasts for more than 50 years.
Cuba, he stressed, with Fidel Castro in the lead he defeated the so-called end of history. Cuba, he underlined, was and keeps being a beacon for the progressive parties of the region and its leadership is fundamental for the rest of these groups.
Cuba teaches us that capacity to modify and analyze to improve and continue forward in the construction of its revolutionary process, with the same dignity and keeping socialism as its focus, extolled Ortega.
He forecast the Forum of Sao Paulo to meet in Havana will be a great event.
