Fidel, Father of Cuban Revolution, Algerian Newspaper Says
Algiers – El Moudjahid, the main Algerian newspaper, has described today Fidel Castro as the father of the Cuban Revolution.
The opinion was published on the front page as a headline to announce the lamentable death of the Cuban leader on Friday night in Havana.
The publication also gave the details released on Saturday by the organizing commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, the State and the Government of Cuba for the funeral ceremonies of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
Just one month and a half ago, Abdelmalek Sellal, the prime minister of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, held a cordial and friendly meeting with Fidel in the Cuban capital.
The close friendship between Cuba and Algeria was remembered during the encounter.
Some moments of Fidel’s meetings with the unconditional, loyal friend of Cuba and current Algerian leader, Abdelaziz Buteflika, were also mentioned.
Algeria and Cuba established diplomatic relations on October 17, 1962, and the first medical mission that worked for 13 months in this country was seen off by Fidel on May 23, 1963, thus starting collaboration in that sector, among others, which extends up to now.
Fidel visited this country several times and described it at the beginning of the century as ‘heroic and fighting Algeria.’
Cuban President Raul Castro paid an official visit to Algiers 18 months ago, his third visit since 2008, and described bilateral relations as excellent.
