Amsterdam - Cuban residents in Europe demanded an end of aggressions by the United States against their country, and supported the Caribbean island's right to exercise its sovereignty, according to a statement released on Thursday.
The text was posted on YouTube by Cesar Bustamante, representative of the 'Cuba in my Soul' Association in the Netherlands, who expressed the organization's support for Cuba.
The call was also signed by the Together for Cuba group and the members of the Meetings of Cuban Residents Abroad, and demands respect for Cuba's self-determination, the end of foreign interference and the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for almost six decades.
In addition, 'it condemns the song ignominiously entitled 'Patria y Vida' (Homeland and Life), as it is an affront to the Cuban people and their history, and pursues the same purposes of those who tried to bend us by hunger, diseases and miseries.'
We repudiate the invitation to the European Parliament of one of the participants in that action to supposedly speak on behalf of Cubans. The European Parliament should listen to different public personalities, due to the supposed democratic values, but prefers to hear the songs financed by the power that would like to see us on our knees, the statement adds.
On the other hand, it highlights the importance and validity of the Cuban economic and sociopolitical system and its positive repercussions for the Cuban people and others, many times forgotten and exploited by the big powers.
