Paris - Cuban ambassador to France, Elio Rodriguez, today shared with the local public his country's advances in the creation and production of vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, and also talked about the reality of the island.
While participating in the program Escala en Paris, a co-production of France 24 and Radio France International, the diplomat pointed out that the vaccine candidates Soberana 02 and Abdala are entering Phase III clinical trials this month, involving studies with tens of thousands of volunteers.
These products demonstrated safety and capacity to achieve a powerful immunological response to the virus, while others such as Soberana 01 and Mambisa are in preliminary stages.
Rodriguez pointed out in the television broadcast the Cuban pharmaceutical industry's goal of producing 100 million doses of the immunizing agents by the end of 2021, a year during which the population of the Caribbean country would be protected against the disease.
In his speech, the ambassador recalled that the island is developing itself under the impact of an economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, a policy he described as criminal because of its consequences.
In this regard, he commented on the tightening of the siege carried out by the administration of now former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) with more than 230 measures, including the absurd and unacceptable inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral list drawn up by Washington of countries sponsoring terrorism.
