Cuba reports 873 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths

Havana - Cuban health authorities reported on Monday 873 new COVID-19 infections and two fatalities over the last 24 hours.

In a nationally televised briefing on Monday, Cuba´s Chief Epidemiologist, Dr. Francisco Durán explained that by midnight, 4,451 positive cases have been admitted to the country's hospitals with Covid-19.

To date, 56 566 people have been diagnosed with the disease caused by the Sars-Cov-2 virus and 350 have died on the island.

Havana continued to report the most cases with 362. Granma and Mayabeque followed with 94 and 67 cases respectively.

Paris - Cuba's permanent representative to UNESCO, Yahima Esquivel, on Monday denounced the impact of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against her country in the sphere of competence of the multilateral organization.

More than 100 foreign writers confirm their participation in Cuba’s Poetry Festival

Havana - Some 250 Cuban and foreign writers, representing 40 nations, will participate in the International Poetry Festival that will be held online from May 25th through the 30th from Havana.

Organized by the CubaPoesía cultural center, the National Association of Writers and Artists (UNEAC), the Cuban Book Institute and the Cuban Ministry of Culture, the event is presided over by Cuban National Literature Prize laureate Nancy Morejón.

Life filled a carnival

Although theater dance groups and soloists were in charge of giving notable life to the XIV edition of El Carnaval de la Escena event, based in Caimito, creators of all the demonstrations joined this online event, which had the participation of representatives from Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia and the host nation, also represented by Teatro del Estro, from Mayabeque province.
