Cuba will add 800 megawatts to the output of its national power system between 2022 and 2024 following the granting by Russia of a 1.2 billion Euros.
The director of Power Plants Development, Edier Guzman, said that the project agreed to last year by the Cuban and the Russian governments aims at building four new power generation facilities to expand local capacities and meet the state and the residential electricity demand.
Guzman said that the contract, signed by Russia´s Inter Rao Export and by Cuba´s Energoimport Company will go into force in April.
The document establishes the setting up of four 200-megawatt generators, one in the Maximo Gomez power plant in western Mariel, and three in Eastern Havana.
This is a contract to expand the Cuban power plants where the generators will be set up, with the use of Cuba fuel, said the official.
The credit line also includes the training of Cuban personnel in charge of the construction, setting up, operations and maintenance of the power-generating units.
